Move entire wiki onto a new server

Does anybody have an idea how I can (hopefully easily) transfer my entire WackoWiki from one machine/server onto another?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  1. A few hints to move your wackowiki onto a new server

    Here the short version: /Comment175

    Long version:
All you need is an ftp programm (e.g. filezilla or konqueror) to backup and move your files and a database dump tool. For an older version of a larger mysql database I used mysqldumper. After a local backup of files and database, you might want to use xampp/lampp to setup a local copy of your web before moving it to a new server. Else copy wacko folder to your new server and edit the /config/config.php variables and delete /_cache/config/config.php.

Depending on which version of wackowiki you use, the backup and upgrade procedure differ. Which version of wackowiki do you use? Which version of mysql/php does your new server support?

Before you start you probably also want to have a look here: /Forum/Discussion/MovingWackoWikiToANewServer

  2. Using Backup and Restore module

You can transfer the tables and the user related files with the Backup and Restore module in the Admin panel.
The source and the target version of WackoWiki should be the same.

    Steps in Admin panel
    1. Backup module: Run an backup of the entire wiki including the files.
      1. ensure that the folder file/backup/ exists and is writable
      2. The backup is stored under file/backup/[date_time].
    2. Move the folder to your new installed wiki and put it at the same location, e.g. file/backup/
    3. Restore module: Run restore.

A more detailed Backup and Restore guide will follow with the next release. Please read the section about the Admin panel in the release notes.
