| Summary | 0000037: Switch to a better rich text editor | ||||
| Description | There are several free rich text editors out there, we should investigate a few of them (unless anyone already has a personal favorite) and implement it. I'm not really sure how much work this will require since the wiki engine has alot of unique syntax. | ||||

WikiEdit can be modified ja the big advantage its very lean and therefor fast and its not intended as rich text editor maybe we introduce an option to switch to an rich text editor |

It kinda depends who we are aiming this for. I've implemented Wacko for about 5 maybe 7 clients. All of them have had major trouble getting their heads around how to format things. So far I've resisted the temptation to switch the text editor to another one and have just insisted that they try and learn the syntax. I think that a text editor that lets people use a wider range of toolbar buttons for editing would allow more people access to the wiki. There's nothing stopping us from still being able to use wiki code directly in it as well (just like we do now). Maybe we could have a config option on each of our user pages which specifies the default view for the text editor. |

integrated WYSIWYG editor into WackoWiki http://72ag.ru/wackow/?wakka=HomePage another example http://www.high-beyond.com/perspective.aspx?action=edit-form&page=sandbox:EditMe The first one uses the RTE I was thinking of using here. They removed all wiki syntax support though which I'd prefer to keep in. They probably did that due to how FreeTextBox parses all the special characters. I reckon we could still use it but have a button that switches between the RTE editor and the current one. That in itself should be pretty simple to do. The hard part will be taking any text that is currently in which ever editor and formatting it so it's ready for the other one. Also; adding some method of supporting Actions for the RTE version could take a while. The second example is from a wiki I think I thought about using in the past, I think it's mainly supported by one person and that I used to talk to them abit. They were very eager to have some more help with the project but I then stumbled across Wacko and got hooked. |

I know I'm the one who reported this issue/feature request but I've now changed my mind. I put alot of thought into this recently and decided that the input method that wacko uses IS part of what makes it unique. I vote that this issue be closed. |
