Red relics
DirtyGlassEye has added a photo to the pool:
I was looking to use the shadows to my absolute full advantage while here at night. There's a certain mystic element to this angle, as if someone is supposed to be in that light, but all you see is the path ahead of you. These toriis can convey any atmosphere if you do it right. All you need is the proper vision.
I didn't try that hard to get this one. This lantern is in one of the opening paths. From the get-go at the foot of Mount Inari the path diverts into 2 paths, likely 1 for going up and 1 for returning though people can just choose any path they want in reality. You've likely seen this composition already as a result.
But a common consequence with long exposures (especially at night) is a simple inability for the photo to process so much darkness. I've never seen so many dead pixels in one shot. In fact, I spent more time getting rid of those then revising the tone of the image itself. Now that I'm seeing this I wish I raised my F-stop for a better sunburst. It was hard to have a tripod here cause some people were still walking by at this time (it was a little past 10 I think). I changed the path to make it match the red aesthetic of the shot. Last week I uploaded a largely green and a largely blue shot, I just thought I'd complete the trinity and open up this week with a red shot so here we are.
I was fully ready to tell another historic tale, but most of my searches brought me to Fushimi castle, not this torii labyrinth. I'll keep looking and when the time is right I'll talk a little more.
