Pool von Japan Through the Eyes of Others
The One by the Window
shihori2026 hat dem Pool ein Foto hinzugefügt:
The title mentions a "window," but it wasn't actually a window at all. It was just how it looked in my mind—haha.
I captured this back in 2021 at the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, using my Panasonic DMC-FZ10.
My memory from that time is a bit hazy, but I believe this is Neo, a female Sumatran orangutan. She seemed to love cloth; if you look closely, she is holding a piece of fabric with a large polka-dot pattern. With that wistful, pensive look on her face, she truly looked like someone gazing out a window.
While preparing to post this photo, I learned the sad news that Neo passed away in 2024 at the age of 54 (equivalent to around 90 in human years).
According to the Higashiyama Zoo website:
"Of all the animals born at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, she lived here for 54 years—the longest in our history—meaning she was part of this place longer than any of our staff."
Reading those words deeply moved me.
